“What can I say, Soundtoys plug-ins are my ride or die. I’ve been using EchoBoy for almost 20 years (wow!) and I’m still finding new sounds with it. “
Recently, Ryan used Soundtoys on the soundtrack for the Apple TV series Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed:
“I mixed the score for the new Apple TV series Maximum Pleasure Guaranteed, composed by the brilliant Wynne Bennett. The music was comprised of analog drum machines, vintage synths, and chopped and pitched vocals- all elements that Soundtoys plug-ins lend themselves to very well! Soundtoys plug-ins were used all over this score to make things sonically wild and unexpected, to match the pace and energy of the show.
In the main title music, the reverb you can hear on the main vocal melody is Superplate. It’s on the Classic 140 setting, set to transistor, with a ~3 second reverb time and the low and hi end filters brought in a good amount. Spaceblender is a new favorite plugin of mine and was used on some of the synth parts in the MPG main title music. Little Plate was also used on a few of the other elements. A few seconds into the piece, there is a cool chopped vocal thing that pans wildly along with the eyes that are moving around on screen. That panning was done using PanMan. Finally, at the end there is a massive distorted bass sound. Wynne’s original part came in pretty beefy, and I used Decapitator to amp it up even more. This same bass part that was used in the main title music can also be heard in Episode 3 at a very intense moment.. no spoilers!”
A musician first, Ryan brings deep musicality to his work, always focused on highlighting what a song is trying to make you feel. His work leans gritty with depth and emotion.
Ryan spends most of his free time cycling, riding his motorcycle, and playing with his Siberian husky, Nacho.
