The NEW Little Radiator

Does the new Little Radiator sound different?

So in March 2012 we released Little Radiator as a limited time free plug-in. It was a model based on the Altec 1566A tube mic preamp. After releasing it (and lots of people got it), we found that our model was based on a 1566A that wasn’t exactly right. Not properly biased. SO, we got another 1566A, got the other one spec’d out correctly, analyzed them thoroughly, made our adjustments and created a new version of little Radiator that was accurate. Well, turns out, the the “Unbiased” sound was actually very cool and unique. So… we had to find a way to keep the old sound, while also releasing the corrected one.

And so was born the new Little Radiator. Both sounds are available via the Bias switch, and the simple “Pad” switch of the “Freebie” has been replaced with a continuous knob for total control. This new version sounds better, even for the model that sounded wrong, and it gives you more control. There are indeed, very subtle differences in the plug-in, but these are improvements in quality and move the plug-in forward. If you have mixes that you feel are overly affected by the new version, we do have a way to “revert” to the old version, but we feel it may be best to make the subtle adjustments to the new plug-in (usually minor gain adjustments) to take advantage of the more accurate modelling, and increased sonic quality of the release version of Little Radiator.

The new version of Little Radiator is included with the upgrade to Radiator as well as every new purchase of Radiator.

V4 Application Compatibility

What applications are officially supported with V4?

Pro Tools HD/LE/M-Powered 8.x – 10.x (Mac and PC)
Logic Pro 8 – 9.x
Digital Performer 6 and 7.x
Cubase 5.x – 6.x (Mac and PC)
Nuendo 4.x – 5.x (Mac and PC)
Sonar 8 – X1
Ableton Live 7.x – 8 (Mac and PC)

But I use a application that isn’t officially supported, what will happen if I try to use SoundToys?

Other apps will possibly work, but are not available for official tech support (We’ll give it a shot, but have to limit to apps we have and can test). We suggest trying the free demo with these apps to confirm. Some of these will likely get added to the main list later.
Some earlier versions of supported apps Example: Cubase 2.x, Pro Tols 6, Etc
Reaper
Bias Peak (Untested)
Huge list of host apps (Man! There are a lot of VST hosts out there)
FL Studio

What applications are currently unsupported?

Kore & Kore2 (We are looking into this with Native Instruments and hope to have a solution before long and add them to the main list)
Bias Peak – is unsupported using VST currently. Something odd that we have to find for it work, but hope to add it to our supported list soon, too
SoundDiver – Another in the “something strange” but looking into it.
We will do our best to keep the most popular applications on our supported list, but can’t get them all.

Current Issues

I downloaded the new V4 update and now it’s asking me for authorization?

Well, the V4 upgrade is a charged upgrade, so if you didn’t purchase it, that’s the problem. If you did purchase, it may simply be the wrong installer. If you have a bundle (An iLok authorization for SoundToys TDM Effects, or SoundToys Native Effects) then you can use the bundle installer. If you have anything else, you need to use the individual installers for each plug-in. Keep in mind, it’s a good idea to trash the SoundToys folder from your plug-ins folder before re-installing.

I’m getting a “wmFlag Error” in Pro Tools. What’s that?.

It should be fixed with V4. Some folks who are using Chassis are still seeing these errors and we are looking into it. Please report this to support@soundtoys.com if you see it.

When will SoundBlender/PitchDoctor/PurePitch be available for Audio Units/RTAS?

For the most part, it’s just not going to happen, at least not in the form they are in now. Those plugs were coded a long time ago (Well long in computer years), so it’s quite a job to get them on our new platform and into Native compatible apps. BUTÉwhat if we made something new and cool, and perhaps even more powerful to replace them?

What about DX/PowerCore/UAD/Etc.?

While we’d would love to support all those other things, each one takes a big chunk of time and, to be honest, we wanna make some cool new plug-ins. Yes, we know how many customers there are for each, and again, we’d love to be there, but come on, you want us to make some cool new plugs, right? THough we’re not ruling anything out right now. Wait, yes, we’re ruling out DX and MAS. Already covered with VST and AU.

I have SoundToys TDM Effects and it comes with native authorizations, but when I installed the native stuff, it asks for authorization?

True, SoundToys TDM Effects is native capable. The solution is to use the SoundToys TDM Effects installer, even if you are running on a native application. It’ll work just fine. It has to do with the fact that your authorization is for SoundToys TDM Effects, not SoundToys Native Effects. Make sense? If you installed native, just make sure to toss the SoundToys folder from your plug-ins folder before you re-install.

How do I find Speed in Logic?

Logic has a cool little pitch changing framework called Pitch and Time Machine that host Speed algorithm. When you open Pitch and Time Machine you’ll see Speed as an option in the list of algorithms.

I’m getting a DAE 7218 error when I use EchoBoy/PhaseMistress/Crystallizer in AudioSuite. What is that?

This is a channel mismatch error. Those 3 plugs come up by default as stereo. If you are processing a mono file, you must switch to “Mono/Left” mode before hitting preview or process. The “Mode” switch is in the gray area above the plug-in interface in the bottom right hand corner.

I can’t control Logic/ProTools when your plug-in is open. Why not?

This is a keyboard focus issue. Our plug-ins take control of the keyboard when they are open. We’re looking into a solution, but for now you must click somewhere outside of our plug-in to regain control of the keyboard for your application.

I opened an old Pro Tools session and my plug-ins come up “Inactive” or grayed out.

This seems to happen to some folks. In most cases you can simply re-activate them by “Control-Option-Command” clicking the inactive interface.

Where is 64bit support?

It’s coming. We had to get the main version 4 release out the door first, and then we can look at 64bit and several other cool things.

Plug-In Authorization and iLok

I downloaded the new bundle installer and now all my auths are gone.

The bundle installer is a different auth. If you upgraded to the new bundle, bought the new bundle or bought our Massive Effects upgrade Summer of 2005 it will work. For all other products you can use the individual installers and all should be fine.

I lost my iLok. How can I get my SoundToys plug-ins back.

Yikes! Well, first you need to contact iLok.com and file a report of a lost iLok. Then send us a copy of that report.
We will check it out and see if we can help. Sorry, no guarantees, so PLEASE HOLD ON TIGHT TO YOUR iLOK.

I downloaded the update to PitchDoctor, and now it doesn’t work.

Double check which version of PitchDoctor you have. The full version (Which was available separately and with UltraTools), or PitchDoctor Promo, which came with the Digidesign MixPack or HDPacks. If the installer from our Legacy software area does not work, it’s likely time to upgrade to V4. PitchDoctor Promo is a very, very, old version that needs to be upgraded for sure, unless you’re still using a very old PT rig.

What’s an iLok.

It’s a small (usually blue) plastic USB key that plugs into your computer’s
USB port and holds the authorizations for the software that you own.
It’s very important. NO REALLY! If you lose your iLok you may lose all the software that was on it.

Purchasing our Products

I bought plug-ins off your site for download. Where’s my authorization?

It should be there. Our new instant delivery system on our webpage usually delivers the authorization to your iLok account within a few minutes if everything checks out.

Some things that could have happened:

Your iLok ID was incorrect. Double check you entered the correct iLOk ID (Which is your username for iLok.com).
You’re iLok account was just created. If your ilok.com account is brand new, we have to process these orders by hand. Your authorization should be available within two business days.
There was an issue with your payment. Again, these will have to be manually processed, so you should have your auth within two business days.

We appreciate your understanding and patience.

My credit card didn’t authorize. I keep getting an error when I try to order.

Sometimes our system does odd things with overseas orders where the system is at a loss for how to decipher some bit of information.
When we see these, we will usually try to contact you, or you are free call
and place your order at 1-802-951-9700 or e-mail us at sales@soundtoys.com and we’ll get back to you.

Free Stuff

I’ve worked with famous people – I am a famous people. Can I get free stuff?

You can. We offer tons of free advice and information both from our web page and via e-mail. Our sales guy has free opinions on just about everything.

As for products, well, we hope that all that fame has also brought you money. Then you can buy our plug-ins and help us have the money to keep making cool toys.
(You can write to us if you like. We do actually like to hear from our users.)

My band just got signed to a big label. Do you do endorsements?

We’re always thrilled to get endorsements from our users. And no, we don’t pay for them with free product.
We’d be afraid that getting signed and then getting free stuff would be too much too soon, and we’ve seen all those VH1 shows where stars burn out when that happens.
Just watching out for your well being.

Do you guys offer any deals for artists?

Actually we do. We make really cool plugs and then price them so everyone can afford them since everyone is an “Artist” at some level, and we don’t want to discriminate.
On top of that our dealers often lower the list price as a “Special Deal”.
It’s a really good system.
