In The Mix: Maroon 5 – “Hands All Over”

There is no doubt, Maroon 5 have locked themselves into the role of hit makers with number ones stacking up each time they drop a new album. They carved out a special place where no one is really competing, groovy pop funk rock. Melodic, rhythmic and lyrically there is always a nice twist that moves them out of cliche and typical, but still connects. The new release, “Hands All Over”, is no exception. Solid, funky, quirky, and so so tight. Lucky for us, it’s loaded with SoundToys, too. Guitarist James Valentine and keyboardist Jesse Carmichael are both SoundToys users (Mutt Lange, another rock pioneer and producer on this album, is a long time SoundToys owner too).

“EchoBoy was our ‘go to’ delay throughout the demo and recording process. Basically if you hear delay on the record, it’s most likely EchoBoy.
You can really hear the delays on the two tracks “Never Gonna Leave This Bed,” and “Just a Feeling,” where we created soundscapes of guitars in the verses. The different delay types and times bounce off of each other to create a pretty huge sound. Oftentimes playing around through the presets would inspire new parts. That’s often how we work with EchoBoy; starting by switching through the presets and then tweaking the controls to get it dialed in exactly how we want it.”

WOW! We’re honored that EchoBoy played such a part in this project. You really need to pick up this disc. We snagged the Deluxe version from iTunes and it’s nothing short of stunning. The mega hit single, Misery, is joined by track after track of that Jackson “Off The Wall” era sound with heavier rock/funk edge and surprises around each corner to make it uniquely Maroon 5.

Also, don’t miss them on tour. They’ve added dates to the US tour and we can vouch, it’s one energetic show. Adam Levin never fails to keep your attention, and musically, they prove that that tightness on the album is because they are freaking tight.
