(And it’s a twisted world indeed.)
“We recently used all of the Sound Toys Plug-ins for our latest sound effects libraries for Sony Media. “The Electronic Music Manuscript: A Richard Devine Collection” was the first library we created. I started out by recording lots of odd acoustic sounds. I had my good friend Josh Kay help me with the recording and editing. We recorded everything from hand made water phones, Tibetan singing bowls, Space phones, to a completely destroyed 1920 Kurtzman grand piano. All the acoustic sounds would then be processed with Echoboy or PhaseMistress. I like the animation of sound that is possible with PhaseMistress. The LFO, Envelope Follower, and Rhythm mode became essential as percussion modeling effects. You can completely crush drum sounds and get some really odd phase shifting sounding effects.

FilterFreak was also crucial to making a lot of the filter processing. The envelope followers “Mutron-esque”, and ADSR section is amazing. The fact that you can automate and run in Rhythm mode, animating both frequency controls with exact precision is brilliant. It locks to MIDI so well. It was so cool to experiment with alternating filter types that would sweep into each other in a sometimes random sample and hold configuration.
The second library we created was called simply “Pulse”. This was a sample collection of analogue modular systems old and new. It turned out to be really interesting, and we used Phase Mistress in the Moogerfooger 12 stage setting to get some rich warm textures over our analogue recorded sounds. It complemented the sounds so well, that I used it on almost every sample that I created. Here is a link to the new library from Sony Media. They are hosting a remix contest this month in conjunction with Native Instruments. Check the details and listen to the sounds, and the track we created using the samples from the library.”
